"Some experiences must be shared, so other people going through the same issues may know there is always a way! When my husband and I moved to Utrecht with two young kids, one of our biggest concerns was how the kids would react to such a different lifestyle. I must say we had an unexpected hard time with our 2yo daughter. Although enrolled in another Daycare, with good references, she didn't fit in and people were not able to change it. A previously happy kid was sad, insecure, crying all the time and unable to eat. She could not stand to be far from us, so vulnerable she was. We tried to improve the situation asking about the possibility of me staying with her a little bit longer in the morning, trying to give her confidence, but it was not allowed since the other kids ( Dutch kids, in general) were by themselves; at their eyes, it did not seem fair. We were about to give up and discussing of packing our bags back home. However, by chance, I met a couple that changed our reality. When I first met Noelle, I did not have a clue about who she was and what she did for a living. But, as the kids started playing together, we - the parents, started talking and as I was unloading my heart about my little one, I could notice that she was asking the right questions and giving answers to the issues regarding the kids' cultural shock that I was posing. The conversation enlightened me about a lot of questions that I hadn't even thought about at that time. When we were about to leave, she said that maybe she could help me, and only then, she told me she owned a Daycare in Utrecht. At this moment, I understood why she was advising me so well! Of course, we scheduled an appointment at the Bilstraat Melkfabrieke and I became happier than I was: brand new facility, organic, food, yoga, music, colorful and happy environment, with smiley teachers!!!! I could not wait for more. Then, our daughter started attending the Melkfabrieke little by little, a few hours a day. I was always in contact with the teachers ( wonderful, I must say), and I was so impressed that they even learned some words in our native language trying to get closer to my little one! And it worked! She was not one in a group anymore. She was a kid, far from her country, trying to understand what was happening and with some lovely people helping her. Long story short, my daughter started eating again, and when she left the Melkfabrieke to attend a regular school, she was so adapted and understanding Dutch and some words in English that instead of enrolling her at the international school, we decided to enroll her at a regular Dutch school. She was already able to stand by herself, and it made us confident that she was ready for the next step. So, there are things in life you will never be able to explain how really grateful you are. I will never be able to thank the team from Melkfabrieke, including the owners, Noelle and Daan, for being so kind, and so professional in what they do! If there is a place that as a mom, I would highly recommend, is the Melkfabrieke - the life-changing Daycare!"
